Board Approved Sick Leave Day Amendment 8/2026
The Tennessee General Assembly by the guidance of the State Comptroller's Office has passed Public Chapter 1022, which is basically requiring local School Boards to update their Board Policy 5.302. The purpose of the new law is to give employees 2 extra personal days a year. In saying all that local School Boards must adopt the State policy that states: Staff that works on a 10-month contract will only earn 8 sick leave days, those on 11-month contract will only earn 9 sick leave days, employees on a 12-month contract will only earn 10 sick leave days, and 4 personal days a year. The personal days not used in a year will roll over to your sick leave. But they do give local School Boards the discretion to add more days if they so choose. (You can look up Public Chapter 1022 to read the actual law)
Please be aware that Humboldt City School Board Members have the best interest of all employees and scholars in mind as well as the budget when making decisions and amendments to all local school board policies.
Humboldt City School Board approved to amend Board Policy 5.302 stating staff that work a 10-month contract will earn 10 sick leave days, 11-month contract will earn 11 sick leave days, 12-month contract will earn 12 sick leave days, and 4 personal days a year. Personal days not used will roll over to the staff member's sick leave.
Sick Leave Note: Please keep in mind if you are absent for more than 5 consecutive workdays, a doctor's note is required. Always make sure that you have completed a sick leave form when you are out.
Personal Leave Note: All staff members earn 4 personal leave days per year. Any unused days will roll over to your sick leave at the end of a school year. You can take 2 personal days, the first semester of school, and 2 days the second semester of school. Please be very mindful when you schedule your days off because we must never have more than 10% of our staff out of the same building at the same time. We do not have enough substitutes to cover all positions if that happens. Always complete your sick leave form when you are absent and record that it is a personal day.
